In the Philippines, we commonly refer to our outdoor kitchens as “dirty kitchen.” The term might be misleading at first glance because it doesn’t mean the kitchen is actually dirty. Instead, it’s a traditional term used to describe an outdoor cooking space. A “dirty kitchen” is typically used for heavy-duty cooking tasks that might generate smoke, strong odors, or a lot of mess, keeping the main indoor kitchen clean and pleasant. It’s a practical solution for many Filipino households, combining functionality with cultural tradition.
