I restore this beautiful 1960s Ercol chair, taking it from a heavy dark varnish back to natural light wood.

In this full process vlog I use water-based paint stripper, sanding, and finish an Ercol 203 Windsor Wooden Chair with natural wax for a soft, authentic sheen. Perfect for mid-century furniture fans, DIYers, and anyone curious about Ercol restoration.

The equipment I used:

– Bartoline Water-Based Paint and Varnish Stripper
– Wire brush and wire wool
– Various Paint Scrapers
– Sandpaper of coarse, medium and fine grit
– Sanding Blocks
– Dewalt oscillation tool with carbide sanding attachment
– Natural Vegan Wood Wax

This video is about restoring a wooden chair. Specifically a dark wood Ercol Windsor Chair from the 1950s or 1960s or 1970s. This is an Ercol 252 – which is an easy chair with the fleur-de-lys design in the back spindles. But it has the same dimensions and style as the more famous Ercol 203.
In this video I use water-based paint stripper to remove the old dark stain, sand it back with my dewalt sander and multi-grit sandpaper, then finish with a natural vegan wood wax.
I will be reupholstering the seat pad, and buying a new back pad for a future video.

This is part of my new slow-living diaries series, documenting the makeover of my barn house and cottage garden. In this video I do some spring preparations, planting up pots and flower beds ready for my cut-flower garden in the summer.

As part of my research (terrified preparation!) I watched Gilboys video “How To Strip and Refinish Ercol Furniture” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a6jvR-i6p_o definitely check that out for more of the technical aspects of restoring ercol chairs and tables, etc.

I enjoy and make videos all about slow living, present moment, personal growth and development, the power of now, daily routines and living mindfully. I am interested in mindfulness practices, yoga, pilates, meditation and general musings on the meaning of life. I am a classic introvert, and get my energy from solitude, quiet time and creating a peaceful home to be my daily sanctuary. I am also working on my writing, so the occasional writing vlog might appear from serene days while I work on my novel and short stories. I spend a lot of time in the garden, working on my vegetable patch, kitchen garden and cut-flowers. All of this brings me peace and joy.
